Euro 2016: Germany coach Joachim Low smells his own armpit (Video)
By David Rouben
Germany coach Joachim Low couldn’t keep his hands to himself.
Germany advanced to the quarterfinals with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Slovakia, but coach Joachim Low decided to celebrate it in the most unconventional way. Twitter user Richard Keys caught the bench boss on the sidelines putting his hand up his armpit, then smelling his own body odor:
As disgusting as that is, it’s actually not the first time he’s done it. Portugal fans certainly won’t forget back in their opening match of the 2014 World Cup when Germany won 4-0, and Joachim Low was spotted picking his nose before shaking Cristiano Ronaldo’s hand:
Nobody knows why he does it, but perhaps it’s his version of a good luck ritual. He’s certainly been a very successful manager for the German national team, as he has guided his team to at least the semifinals in every tournament he’s managed. Germany could well be on their its way there again given the way the team is playing, but a difficult hurdle awaits in either Italy or Spain, both of whom have a habit of beating Germany in tournaments.
Germany has yet to concede a goal in the Euros through four games, and maybe he believes this can help extend it. Although for the players and coaches’ sake, let’s hope nobody on Germany or Slovakia shook Low’s hand this time.
