Troy Tulowitzki received the warmest reception he could’ve possibly asked for in his first game back at Coors Field.

One of the best shortstops to ever play, Troy Tulowitzki reached God status when he was a Colorado Rockie. He won two Gold Gloves, two Silver Sluggers, and was part of the best Rockies team in history when they made it to the World Series in 2007.

Even now that he’s past his prime, he’s still considered one of the best defensive players in the game, and a lot of fans were broken up when he was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays. Tulo himself admitted that it took a long time for him to adapt to life in Toronto, as he still couldn’t get over the fact that he was traded from the only team he ever knew.

Toronto traveled to Coors Field for the first time since the Tulowitzki trade, which was also the first time they played the Rockies since then. While some fans might still be broken up over the fact that he’s gone, they gave him a hero’s welcome in his first at-bat of the game:

Another former Rockie who was involved in the trade, LaTroy Hawkins, also posted a video of the at-bat, along with a nice caption. But since he’s currently unsigned, he was resigned to watching the game on TV:

That is just an incredibly classy move by both the fans and Tulo alike. The Rockies are a team whose experiences of success are few and far between, but Tulowitzki has provided some of their most memorable moments. With a 36-39 record, they haven’t been terrible this season but the playoffs appear to be a long shot for them.

However, this was a game that many people had circled on their calendar, and whether they win or lose, it won’t be a game that fans, or Tulowitzki, will forget any time soon.
