Chicago Bears legend Buddy Ryan, who was instrumental to the 1985 Super Bowl winning team, has died at the age of 82.

The sports world has lost another titanic legend. June has already taken the likes of Muhammad Ali, Gordie Howe and Pat Summitt and now legendary NFL coach Buddy Ryan has been taken from us as well.

Adam Schefter confirmed the news on Tuesday morning.

Ryan was more than just a coach, he was a guy that had an impact on his players long after he retired from the NFL. As his health began to deteriorate over recent years, stories have come out about former Bears players making their way to his ranch to help take take care of him.

That doesn’t just happen to any ordinary coach. Buddy was a guy that touched people in a special way and his legacy is going to shine brighter than most that we’ve seen come through the NFL.

Say what you will about Ditka and the ’85 Bears, but just about any Bears fan — and now the general NFL public — will tell you that was Buddy’s team and it will always be that way.
