NBA Rumors: Heat finalizing contract extension with Erik Spoelstra
By Jack Crosby
The Miami Heat and head coach Erik Spoelstra are close to finalizing a contract extension
With NBA free agency looming, it’s no secret that the Miami Heat have a lot of work to do in regards to keeping some of their top-tier players. But one thing that has flown under the radar is that head coach Erik Spoelstra is also close to potentially leaving the organization, as he is entering the final year of his deal.
Well, they might be all right when it comes to keeping their head man on the bench.
According to a report from The Vertical, the Heat and Spoelstra are close to coming to terms on a multi-year deal that would keep the young, successful coach around for the foreseeable future.
While a lot of the focus on the Heat this offseason will be on the players that they can keep on the roster, there’s no denying that this is a big move for the organization as well. At just 45 years of age, Spoelstra is one of the more successful coaches in the game, as he’s already won himself two NBA titles and made multiple playoff appearances. They were in the postseason hunt this past season, but they fell short in their series against the Toronto Raptors.
There’s no telling what this team will look like on the court next season after the free agency storm this summer is over, but we know now that Spoelstra will be on the bench with a fresh new contract as he leads the charge.
