According to ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun, the Montreal Canadiens are interested in a reunion with forward Dale Weise after trading him at the trade deadline.

The Montreal Canadiens traded forward Dale Weise to the Chicago Blackhawks at the trade deadline in hopes of getting something back for a player they risked losing for nothing in free agency. According to Pierre LeBrun, the Canadiens are at least entertaining a reunion with Weise.

Weise would be an interesting addition to the Canadiens considering they just signed a very similar, but better, player in Andrew Shaw for six years. That would potentially create a very expensive third and fourth line for the Canadiens, which would not be ideal.

From ESPN:

"The Montreal Canadiens have been in contact with Dale Weise’s camp. There’s interest to perhaps bring him back — the Canadiens traded him to the Chicago Blackhawks before the deadline — but it would have to be at the right price"

While Weise is a proven bottom-six forward who can add energy and a hint of scoring to any team, his price tag could be an issue for the Canadiens, a team that doesn’t have that much cap space to burn after extending Shaw.

Weise had a career high 14 goals in 2015-16 and his 27 points were the second highest single season total of his career, trailing only the 29 points he collected during the 2014-15 season. He scored 26 points in 56 games with the Canadiens but only one point in 15 games with the Blackhawks.
