If the Clippers management decides to pass on re-signing incumbent Sixth Man of the Year Jamal Crawford, another sharpshooting former SMOY recipient may be a viable option to replace him.

The Brazilian Blur just wrapped up another successful tryst with the Warriors’ during their historic 73-9 season – which ended after LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers literally and metaphorically rejected them from earning the NBA Championship for the second year in a row. Barbosa’s veteran status and ability to provide several potent scoring bursts at any given moment could be enough to fill the Crawford-sized hole if a contract extension is nowhere in sight.

As a Clipper, Crawford’s game has mostly relied on being a shot-creating, mid-to-deep range shooter – frequently making the most of four point plays and clutch opportunities. However, where Crawford overcompensated in offense, he severely lacked the ability to play any semblance of defense – and if you’re going to play for Doc, you better be able to play a little D.

On the other hand, Barbosa uses his speed to beeline through defenses and run circles around anyone tasked with standing in front of him. He also remains an active defender, endlessly trying to pick the pockets of careless ball-handlers.

Age is always a factor for any athlete over 30, but if the Clips are going to go after anyone – regardless of how old they are – why not get a man who can shoot and defend?
