Before free agency even starts, Kevin Durant will be meeting with his current team on Thursday

Without a doubt, the biggest name in NBA free agency this summer is that of Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant. One of the best players in the league right now, there are a lot of teams that will be vying for his services within the next week, setting the stage up for what should be a crazy ride for the former NBA MVP.

But, before the madness starts on July 1, his current team will get first crack in regards to at least sitting down and having a conversation with him.

According to ESPN and Chris Broussard, Durant will meet with the Thunder on Thursday before he gets set for the official contract meetings this weekend in the Hamptons with the favorite teams that he has lined up at the moment.

Now, everyone must be reminded that while he’ll meet with the Thunder, they aren’t allowed to talk about anything in regards to a future contract until free agency officially begins. However, they could talk about where this team is headed in the coming seasons, hoping that the answers might help in bringing back the biggest star the franchise has ever known, even dating back to their days as the Seattle SuperSonics.

Durant has spent all nine years of his career with the Thunder/Sonics, and he has not ruled out the possibility of a return, despite what some of the other teams might offer. At the same time, though, there is the possibility that he could just sign a large one-year deal with the Thunder and test free agency again next season where he could really make some serious cash.

This saga is just beginning, but we know now that Oklahoma City will at least have a slight head start on the process.
