When does the 2016 Tour de France officially start?

The greatest event in cycling is officially back, as the 2016 Tour de France is set to begin this Saturday. It officially starts Saturday, July 2 and Chris Froome will look to try and keep his crown for Team Sky and Great Britain.

As everyone knows, the Tour de France provides the best scenery of just about every sporting event as the best cyclists in the world compete across beautiful countrysides and in the mountainous region that is the Swiss Alps.

The first stage is typically a single-rider time trial and that sets the stage for the rest of the event. The event usually starts off with some flat ground, but as the days wear on, the courses become a little more difficult and that is where the yellow jersey is really won.

So for those that are looking to watch something on Saturday, they can tune in and catch the top cyclists chase each other down. Will Froome be able to get off on the right foot when the first stage begins on Saturday?

He’s going to have a talented field to hold off behind him.
