The Atlanta Hawks made one of the biggest moves of free agency on Friday, when the team agreed to a deal with free agent center Dwight Howard.

The Atlanta native was expected to find a new home in free agency and the Hawks reportedly have agreed to a three-year deal worth $70.5 million with Howard, according to Shams Charania.

It’s a lot of money to drop on their new center, but with the new market seeing outrageous deals, it falls directly in line with what every other team has been doing thus far.

Howard is in a bit of an interesting spot as his star has lost a lot of its luster after leaving the Eastern Conference. Issues with his teammates have painted him in a negative light and a slip in production has as well.

The hope in Atlanta is that he can become a productive player in Mike Budenholzer’s system and that the rest of the team should be a good fit around him.

Signing Howard doesn’t take them out of re-signing Al Horford, but it gives them insurance if he does leave. Some people might take it at shock value initially, but here are three reasons why it is a good deal for the Hawks.
