Free agents Mike Conley and Chandler Parsons have discussed possibly teaming up together with the Memphis Grizzlies

Despite his history with the Memphis Grizzlies and his rapport with his teammates, there was a time not long ago when it seemed as if point guard Mike Conley might be moving on from Memphis. However, now things have taken a turn on the first day of 2016 NBA free agency as now it’s looking like Conley could actually be trying to not only return to the Grizzlies, but bring some friends in the process.

According to a report from ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, Mike Conley and free agent small forward have been in discussions with one another about possibly getting together and playing for the Grizzlies. MacMahon noted that this possibility isn’t on the table for Dallas as they reportedly aren’t interested in re-signing Parsons, though Conley still has a meeting scheduled with the Mavs:

This is certainly a development that I don’t believe many people saw coming. While Parsons had been connected with the Grizzlies leading up to the start of free agency, the notion of Memphis being able to pull both him and Mike Conley off the market didn’t seem wholly possible.

In terms of how effective this would be for Memphis, it’s a deal that I absolutely would love for the Grizzlies if they believe that Parsons is healthy and doesn’t have lingering knee issues. He’s just the right influx of youth and talent that they desperately need on the wings to not only stay relevant in the Western Conference, but to actually improve.
