Is Kevin Durant more likely to sign with the Boston Celtics now that the team has landed Al Horford?

Perhaps the best center available in 2016 NBA free agency is heading to Beantown. On Saturday evening, Al Horford announced that he will signs a four-year, $113 million deal with the Boston Celtics in what is one of the biggest gets yet for any team in free agency over the first two days.

Horford going to the Celtics is a signing that makes complete sense. Not only does Horford fill the biggest hole in the Boston rotation as their frontcourt has been lackluster in recent years, but the former Atlanta Hawks center is now going to be an anchor on both ends of the floor and seems like the type of NBA player that is going to thrive almost immediately under Celtics head coach Brad Stevens.

However, the bigger question for the Celtics after getting past the excitement of signing Horford is what’s next for them as they try to become a contender. More specifically, the Celtics have to be wondering if this signing affects the possibility of Kevin Durant signing with Boston.

The Celtics were one of the teams that met with Durant on Saturday in the Hamptons as Boston sent a strong contingency from the team and the city to try and woo the biggest name on the market. But what could ultimately woo him even more so is the possibility of playing next to a player like Horford.

Though we aren’t in the heads of these players, you have to imagine that landing Al Horford this early in free agency at the very least makes Boston a more enticing destination for Durant. Now Durant would make them potential favorites in the East whereas Durant alone may not have taken them to that level.

So in that regard, I suppose it’s impossible to say that this doesn’t help Boston’s chances at being the runaway winners in free agency.
