Veteran forward Anthony Tolliver is reportedly closing in on a two-year deal to play with the Sacramento Kings. Tolliver was last with the Detroit Pistons.

According to Shams Charania of The Vertical of Yahoo! Sports, “free agent forward Anthony Tolliver is nearing agreement on a two-year deal with the Sacramento Kings.”

Tolliver has been on eight different NBA teams since going undrafted out of Creighton University in 2008. He has never been on a team for more than two years and is coming off his longest stint anywhere after being with the Detroit Pistons for the last year and a half.

With Detroit, Tolliver has played in 124 games, starting in 16 of them, averaging 6.3 points per game and 3.4 rebounds per game either forward position. It’ll be interesting to see what the Kings end up offering Tolliver, who probably wants stability in terms of contract length, the ability to play more, and get a larger paycheck than what Detroit might offer.

Update: Tolliver agreed to a 2-year, $16 million deal with the Kings, according to Sam Amick.

He could end up getting all three of those things in Sacramento. The Kings are again probably not a playoff caliber team in the Western Conference. New head coach Dave Joerger will probably want a veteran like Tolliver to stretch the field with a career 35.7 percent stroke from three.

While the Kings orchestrated a favorable deal with former New York Knicks shooting guard Arron Afflalo, who’s to say that dysfunctional Sacramento might offer something ridiculous to a role player of Tolliver’s caliber and he’ll end up playing for the Kings in Northern California next season.

For Sacramento to get better, they’ll need better outside shooting and team-first veterans to help turn around this mediocre basketball team. Tolliver seems like a reasonable fit for the Kings, but at what price?
