Free agent shooting guard Arron Afflalo has reportedly agreed to a two-year deal worth $25 million to play for the Sacramento Kings in 2016 NBA free agency.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical of Yahoo! Sports, free agent shooting guard “Arron Afflalo has agreed to a two-year, $25M deal with the Sacramento Kings.”

While he isn’t a center, signing Afflalo at this price seems like a very good deal for the Kings. Sacramento has had miserable production from its shooting guards the last several years. Former lottery pick Ben McLemore hasn’t panned out, Nik Stauskas was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers last summer, and Marco Belinelli was traded to the Charlotte Hornets during the 2016 NBA Draft.

Sacramento still enters 2016-17 as one of the more chaotic organizations in the NBA, but getting a player of Afflalo’s caliber at the starting two-guard should be a huge boost to the Kings’ offense.

Afflalo has bounced around the last few years, most recently with the New York Knicks. He’s a capable go-to scorer either as a starting wing or coming off the bench as a sixth man. While the Kings made a solid hire in getting Dave Joerger as their next head coach, it’s imperative for the Kings to get star center DeMarcus Cousins solid shooters around the perimeter to ease the burden of carrying the team and limiting his frustrations.

Sacramento will also go hard after free agent stretch four Ryan Anderson this summer, who is a native of Northern California. The Kings are looking to at the very least field a competitive team for when the club opens brand-new Golden 1 Center in downtown Sacramento this season. Signing Afflalo to a favorable two-year deal is a rare good move for the Kings’ front office.
