After weeks of speculation, it was officially confirmed on Saturday that Henrikh Mkhitaryan has signed with Manchester United.

It has been quite the offseason for Manchester United, following a disappointing campaign. The Red Devils replaced Louis van Gaal with Jose Mourinho at the conclusion of the season, and the Portuguese tactician has wasted no time in bolstering his squad.

It was just on Friday that the club had announced the signing of Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The polarizing figure had never played in the Premier League before, and opted to sign with Manchester United as a free agent after his contract with Paris St-Germain had expired.

They weren’t done there though, as it was officially announced on Saturday that the club have also completed a move to bring Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Old Trafford. The Armenian international spent the last three seasons plying his trade in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund, and with his contract set to expire following the upcoming season, the  club decided to cash in on Mkhitaryan before losing him for nothing.

“Manchester [United] have made us an enormously valuable offer,” said the Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke, via The Guardian. “Had we rejected it, the player would have been able to leave for free in 2017. And all we would have done is delay the issue for another year.”

While financial details have not officially been revealed, The Guardian is reporting that the transfer fee is somewhere in the neighborhood of £30 million.
