We have our semifinals set for Euro 2016.

Iceland, everyone’s favorite underdog (outside of England), suffered a crushing 5-2 loss to a great French squad M. The Iceland team had a historic run through the Euros, handing havy favorite England an upset loss and capturing the world’s love with their gutsy play and terrifying Viking clap-chant. With Iceland finally meeting their end, we have the semifinals for the remainder of the tournament locked in.

Portugal will face off against Wales on the 6th, and Germany will square up against England on the 7th.

The favorites here have to be the French with their home field advantage. France slipped a little in the closing minutes against Iceland, but their defense might be the best in this tournament. Paul Pogba leads a strong midfield against Mesut Ozil and Germany’s strong offense.

On the other side of the semis, we have Portugal and Wales. Portugal’s aging team, led by Cristiano Ronaldo, has made their living off of extra time and penalty kick victories. They might need more than playing for extra time against surprising Wales, who were given an 80/1 shot to win the championship by oddsmakers before the tournament.

This Euro championship has easily been one of the most entertaining in recent years. Iceland captured the world in such fashion that we’ve overlooked the rest of the insanity going on, especially in the Wales-Portugal matchup.

I like Wales and Germany, but I’m expecting to see a Portugal-France final. The home field advantage will be difficult to ignore, and Cristiano Ronaldo will be too talented for Wales to control.
