Kevin Durant will reportedly employ the Players’ Tribune to make his big free agency announcement.

According to Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders, Kevin Durant will take to the internet’s voice for players (The Players’ Tribune) to announce his free agency decision.

The Players’ Tribune has been an outlet for players to communicate with their fans and those who despise them in a way that’s a little longer than a tweet. It’s also been used as a way to announce huge decisions about the player’s futures and the future of their franchises. Their articles can be long or short, what matters is that it’s the players who are posting them.

Hassan Whiteside wrote about 30 words on the Players’ Tribune to announce his return to the Heat. Kevin Love announced that he’ll re-sign with the Cavs on the Tribune. Lance Thomas wrote about how he turned his 10-day contract into a career. Clay Matthews wrote a scouting report on himself.

The Players’ Tribune, founded by Derek Jeter, is all about the players and is widely considered one of their main outlets for communication with fans and doubters. Kevin Durant is a deputy publisher at the Tribune, which likely doesn’t mean much, as Kevin Love is listed as a “Senior Editor”.

Regardless, the Players’ Tribune is great. It offers us a direct, unfiltered view into the lives of athletes, silly titles aside. And in a few hours, the Players’ Tribune will be home to the biggest NBA free agency news on the market: the destination of Kevin Durant.
