5. Philadelphia 76ers

Let’s face it — it would require nothing short of a king’s ransom to acquire Russell Westbrook. Very few teams could pull it off without mortgaging their future. One of the very few teams who could pull it off and will have a ton of cap space to give Westbrook a huge deal next offseason? The Philadelphia 76ers.

This would require several things from the 76ers. First, it would require for them to partially admit that maybe “The Process” just isn’t working. At the very least, it’s probably time to speed it up a bit. The 76ers have no marketable stars or huge superstars to build around and Westbrook could change that in an instant.

Perhaps no team would be in better shape than the 76ers to offer the Thunder a lucrative package. The Thunder could choose from a variety of tempting options. Perhaps take on Jahlil Okafor, who has superstar potential? Nerlens Noel would look mighty nice replacing Serge Ibaka in the paint. A package built around one of those two players, two or three role players, and draft picks (something that the 76ers have a lot of) could get it done.

If the 76ers are willing to admit that the process has failed them, it would work. It would certainly help if Westbrook is willing to sign an extension immediately. Hey, crazier things have happened.
