Just minutes after Dwyane Wade signed with the Chicago Bulls, they shipped out recently acquired Jose Calderon to the Brooklyn Nets.

The Jose Calderon era in Chicago has ended before it ever got started. The Chicago Bulls clearly knew what they were doing when they traded Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks, as they essentially replaced him with Dwyane Wade who, even at 34, has a lot to offer the team.

In exchange for Rose, the Bulls got back Robin Lopez, Jose Calderon, and Jerian Grant. But as long as they were pursuing Wade, Calderon was never going to stay on the team. Now that he’s signed, they needed to clear space, and Calderon is the first man out the door, along with Mike Dunleavy:

You have to hope that the Brooklyn Nets know what they’re doing by taking on Jose Calderon, who has been a flop ever since he started his career in Toronto. His career “highlights” include plays like this:

And while he thought he’d be out of New York for good when he got traded, it turns out he didn’t really move that far.

It’s true that Calderon is a good shooter, and that’s an area the Bulls need help in, but Nikola Mirotic and Doug McDermott are more than capable of holding their own in that department. The Nets have been a dysfunctional franchise for a long time, and this trade, if it goes through will hardly be enough to repair their image.

The Bulls, meanwhile, have to be over the moon that they found a trade partner for Calderon. In a matter of days, they’ve gone from tanking to contending in the East and, while Wade and Rajon Rondo are old, they still remain potent threats. At least, way more potent threats than Calderon.
