NBA trade rumors: Jose Calderon dealt to the Los Angeles Lakers
By David Rouben
The Los Angeles Lakers were the team that eventually won (lost) the Jose Calderon sweepstakes.
The Los Angeles Lakers’ offseason started with them getting Kevin Durant and Hassan Whiteside, and ended with them getting Jose Calderon and Timofey Mozgov.
After Calderon endured two nightmare seasons with the New York Knicks, he was on the bad end of two one-sided trades when the Chicago Bulls acquired him in exchange for Derrick Rose. And now with Dwyane Wade on board, the Bulls off-loaded Calderon to one of the few teams that would actually willingly take on his services: the Los Angeles Lakers.
Even though it was previously reported that he could end up on the Brooklyn Nets, which would’ve been just as hilarious, the Lakers ended up being his destination. Calderon’s career high in points per game is 12.8, but don’t expect that to change at his new team.
It’s a shame to see the Lakers surround Brandon Ingram, a potential franchise player and a great piece to build around, with mid to low-end talent such as Timofey Mozgov and Jose Calderon. These players are bad for the development of their youngsters, and they’re the reason why the Lakers are going to finish at or near the bottom of the standings again next season.
But on the bright side, at least their offseason can’t get any worse, right?
