Should Hassan Whiteside back out of his verbal commitment with the Miami Heat because of Dwyane Wade leaving?

Dwyane Wade has officially turned the NBA upside down with his decision to join the Chicago Bulls. With Wade leaving the Miami Heat, the Heat are left to figure out what exactly is the future of their roster.

They have Justise Winslow and Josh Richardson as young players and vets like Goran Dragic and Chris Bosh. They also have a verbal agreement from Hassan Whiteside, who will sign his contract once the league permits it.

However, knowing that Wade is leaving and everything could be on the way down for Miami, should Whiteside pull back on his verbal commitment?

While it would tarnish his reputation and make teams hesitant to sign him in the future, it is the same thing that DeAndre Jordan did last year with the Dallas Mavericks, when he returned to the Clippers.

The point is that if Whiteside feels that this isn’t what he signed up for, would it be okay to pull out of his deal with the Heat? With teams having spent a good chunk of their money already, it’s hard to say if any team out there would have the money to spend on him and match the four years and $98 million he is about to get.

It’s highly unlikely and it isn’t something he should consider at all. Still, the thought of Jordan makes you ponder if verbal commitments mean anything anymore.
