Identifying the top high salary and value second baseman plays from around Major League Baseball for your July 7 DraftKings lineup.

Our goal is to help you win DraftKings contests with consistently strong lineups. To accomplish that, we’ll be highlighting some higher salary players worth paying up for, and some value picks that will help you save salary in key areas. These picks are specifically for DraftKings lineups, so all references to prices and fantasy points are based on DK figures.

As always, be sure to double-check final MLB lineups and monitor weather situations before locking in your DFS lineups.

High Salary

DJ LeMahieu, Rockies (4,900): Trust us, Colorado batters will be very popular on Thursday’s short slate. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t roster any of them. Second base offers a handful of solid options, including Jose Altuve (5,200) and Daniel Murphy (5,000). LeMahieu, however, gets the nod because of the Coors Field effect. He’s also hitting .315 against lefties this season, which is bad news for Philadelphia Phillies southpaw Adam Morgan (1-6, 6.31 ERA).

Jason Kipnis, Indians (4,900): Kipnis’ power numbers (11 home runs, 46 RBIs) have been impressive this season, though his average has slipped from .303 in 2015 to .265 midway through 2016. He’ll have a wonderful opportunity to boost it Thursday against struggling New York Yankees righty Ivan Nova (5-5, 5.06 ERA). Kipnis looks like a solid play.

High Value

Whit Merrifield, Royals (3,500): Is the rookie finally hitting a wall? Merrifield has gone hitless in his last three games with a combined six strikeouts. The cold streak has dropped his season average to .294. Thursday’s matchup with Seattle Mariners lefty James Paxton (2-3, 4.24 ERA) could help him rebound, however. Merrifield is hitting .359 against lefties this season.

Darwin Barney, Blue Jays (2,400): Barney will never cost a lot to roster, but he has high upside in Toronto’s potent lineup. He’s hit safely and scored at least five DraftKings points in each of his last five games. For a player that’s barely above minimum price, that’s not too shabby. He’s also 2-for-3 with a double in his career against Justin Verlander (8-6, 4.11 ERA), so he’s worth a shot on Thursday.
