Each MLB team must send a representative to the All-Star Game. Let’s take a look at each franchise’s worst representative of all-time.
One of the most controversial rules of the MLB All-Star Game is that each team must send at least one representative. Usually, it’s fine because each team usually tends to at least have one somewhat deserving player to play at the Midsummer Classic. But that isn’t always the case. A lone representative usually winds up costing a far more deserving player of a roster spot.
It is even more ridiculous in recent years. Why wouldn’t the MLB want to send its best players regardless of team since the Midsummer Classic now actually means something? Do they want home field advantage in the World Series to be determined by a player on a bad team who nobody outside of that team’s fanbase knows? Why not let it be determined by the best players?
Even before the All Star game meant something, it was still a silly rule. Sure, each team’s fanbase needs a reason to watch. However, are they really going to watch just to see, say, Ty Wigginton bat? No. Nobody would do that.
Here is each MLB team’s worst All-Star Game representative of all-time.
