Manu Ginobili announced via Twitter on Thursday that he’s coming back for another season with the San Antonio Spurs
The NBA’s Western Conference has obviously been shaken up in a big way after Kevin Durant made his decision to head out to the Bay Area. However, it’d be foolish to underestimate the one constant in the NBA and the West in the San Antonio Spurs. Not only do they still have LaMarcus Aldridge, Kawhi Leonard, Tony Parker, and their latest addition of Pau Gasol, but one of their veteran leaders just announced that he’ll be returning.
On Thursday morning, veteran sixth man Manu Ginobili took to Twitter to simply exclaim and announce that he’s coming back to join the Spurs for the 2016-17 season:
Happy to tell you guys that I'll be coming back to the Spurs for another season. #backhome

While there have been many announcements of big names leaving or players staying throughout NBA free agency, this actually had nothing at all to do with free agency other than timing.
Much like his teammate (and actual free agent) Tim Duncan, Ginobili was mulling the possibility of hanging it up and retiring. Obviously he decided against that given his announcement on Thursday, though Duncan is expected to retire at this point—especially after the Gasol signing.
Ginobili obviously isn’t the player that he once was for the Spurs. However, he can still be a veteran presence in the locker room to keep the culture thriving in San Antonio and to give valuable minutes when needed. For that and for sentimental purposes, I’m sure Spurs fans are happy to see Manu returning for at least one more run.
