According to Shams Charania of The Vertical, free agent center Dewayne Dedmon is set to sign a two-year deal worth $6 million with the San Antonio Spurs.

The San Antonio Spurs went into the offseason looking to add size to their, especially with Tim Duncan reportedly leaning towards retirement. According to The Vertical’s Shams Charania, the Spurs have agreed to a two-year deal with free agent center Dewayne Dedmon. The former Orlando Magic center’s deal is reportedly worth $6 million.

That’s not a bad price for Dedmon, who became surplus to requirements in Orlando. He played a backup role, averaging 4.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game while playing 12.2 minutes per game. Per 36 minutes, he scored 13.0 points and 11.6 rebounds. With his size, he should provide solid center depth for San Antonio. Since they have an aging, but still very effective Pau Gasol at center, the Spurs needed to add a center to help keep Gasol fresh. Dedmon allows them to do that.

It’s a very reasonable price for Dedmon, especially considering the potential he showed with the Magic. Dedmon is the prototypical big man that Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich loves. He rebounds at a very efficient rate and protects the rim with his 7-foot, 245-pound frame. Dedmon could be a diamond in the rough for the Spurs. He has certainly shown potential with the Magic.
