The Oklahoma City Thunder lost Kevin Durant this off-season, but they may be keeping fellow star Russell Westbrook when his contract is up next year.

The Oklahoma City Thunder took the biggest blow of the free agency period, losing franchise player Kevin Durant to the rival Golden State Warriors. Not only is he headed out of town, but he is headed to the enemy, who came back from a 3-1 series deficit to the Thunder to win the Western Conference title.

Next off-season, star Thunder guard Russell Westbrook will be a free agent, and he will be able to go wherever he wants. Westbrook and Durant formed one of the better two-man tandems in all of basketball for the past eight seasons. Some feel the two did not get along, and that it played a role in Durant leaving, so it is possible Westbrook stays now that KD is gone.

There could be some truth to him staying, and that truth may have come out of his basketball camp. Speaking to campers at his 2016 Russell Westbrook Why Not? Basketball Camp, Westbrook asked the kids if they were coming back next year, because he would be there.

Westbrook has played his entire career in Oklahoma City, as the Thunder drafted him out of UCLA with the fourth overall selection in the 2008 NBA Draft. He is the kind of player that can put a team on his back, and is one only four or so players who can average a triple-double if he needs to.

The Thunder will be counting on him more than ever during the 2016-17 season, and just maybe, he will be back in Oklahoma City for the 2017-18 season and beyond.
