The Miami Heat have to rebuild their roster after losing Dwyane Wade to the Chicago Bulls. On Friday, they signed Derrick Williams to a one-year deal.

Derrick Williams was once the second overall selection in the 2011 NBA Draft, as the Minnesota Timberwolves expected him to be a cornerstone of their franchise for years. Instead, Williams has bounced around the NBA, before latching on with the New York Knicks last season.

For the Knicks, Williams was actually pretty productive, averaging over nine points per game in 80 appearances. This off-season, he passed on a $4.6 million dollar player option to stay with the Knicks, instead opting to try his hand in free agency.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, Williams agreed to a one-year, $5 million dollar deal with the Miami Heat on Friday, and will head to his fourth team in six seasons in the NBA.

Williams is possibly looking at the Heat as a way to up his value as heads to free agency again in 2017. The Heat took some huge losses in the free agent period this year, but none was bigger than the blow they took this past week.

Dwyane Wade, who has been the face of the franchise for the past 13 seasons, bolted South Beach for the Windy City. The three-time NBA champion signed with the Chicago Bulls this past week, accepting a 2year/$47.5 million dollar deal with his hometown team.

Williams is a nice player, but the Heat are going to have to do more than this if they want to be relevant in the Eastern Conference in the 2016-17 NBA season.
