The 2016 Home Run Derby more than delivered on entertainment on Monday night. With the best sluggers in baseball taking on Petco Park, there were bound to be some mammoth home runs.

Needless to say, there was nowhere in the park that safe from the likes of Giancarlo Stanton, Mark Trumbo and others. The first round of the event was all about Stanton, who hit 24 home runs and had everyone talking about his performance.

It’s not often that a player hits a home run near 500 feet and Stanton did it effortlessly. The crowd favorite in the event was Wil Myers of the hometown San Diego Padres and he fell just short to Adam Duvall. Still, it was an impressive showing from one of the strongest young hitters in baseball.

The best moment came when Myers got plunked by his brother who was pitching to him.

Defending champion Todd Frazier would stealthily sneak his way into the second round of the event, as he just edged out Carlos Gonzalez.

In the second round, Stanton would outlast Trumbo in a duel, but Trumbo stole the show, as he hit the massive scoreboard in left field.

In the battle against the defending champion, Duvall led off with 15 home runs and put Frazier in a tough spot.

However, it wouldn’t be enough to hold off Frazier. He would hit 16 and set himself up a showdown with Stanton in the finals of the Home Run Derby.

In the finals, Stanton would do his best to try and clinch the Home Run Derby win with 20 home runs in the final round. His power never let up and he was still hitting the longest home runs of the derby.

Frazier would hit 13 in the final round, but it wasn’t enough to take down Stanton. It was one of the most impressive showings, as Stanton hit plenty of home runs, but had power behind each home run.

It’s a big momentum boost for him going forward and a reminder why he is the strongest man in baseball.
