Acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays for a blue-chip prospect, Anthony Gose’s second season in Detroit hits yet another bump.

The Detroit Tigers announced today that outfielder Anthony Gose was activated from the Suspended List after three days. However, the team transferred his option from Triple A Toledo to Double A Erie after a confrontation with Mud Hens manager Lloyd McClendon.

Gose, who was sent to Triple-A after his average plummeted to .209 in May, was not faring well in Toledo with a .185/.255/.266 slash line in 50 games. On Saturday he got into a verbal confrontation with McClendon, cursing him, before the manager sent him home. He would be a no-show for the next game.

“After collectively evaluating the situation in Toledo, we spoke with Anthony and emphasized our organization’s expectations of him,” said Tigers Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Al Avila. “Most importantly, Anthony’s transfer to Erie is a move to give him a fresh start to his overall performance as he works his way back to Detroit.”

Gose, 25, has reported to the Seawolves, although his recent actions on and off the field might signal the end of his Tigers career.

Detroit sent second-base prospect Devon Travis to Toronto hoping Gose would become their everyday centerfielder. He had a respectable first season, going .254/.321/.367 with five homers, 26 RBI and 26 stolen bases. However, the Tigers seem to be looking past him as Cameron Maybin passed him on the depth chart and 30-year old Alex Presley was signed on Saturday. The Brewers granted Presley his free agency on July 1.
