Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly calls LSU the “real Death Valley” as he took a not so subtle jab at his former school, Clemson, at SEC Media Days.

SEC Media Day always generates buzz as the best football programs and some of the biggest personalities in the country face the media for the first time of the new college football season.

With an Ole Miss program that has endured a controversial offseason and is now undergoing NCAA investigation, set to meet the media, the fourth and final day of the availability did not disappoint.

Rebels quarterback Chad Kelly provided a quick spark when he called LSU the “real Death Valley”, an obvious jab at his former school, Clemson, that has the same nickname for its home field.

By evidence of his glowing smile and the repetition of the phrase, Kelly obviously wanted to make his disdain for Clemson clear.

Kelly, the nephew of Hall of Fame NFL QB Jim Kelly, enrolled to Clemson in 2012 and was subsequently redshirted. After appearing in just five games as a freshman in 2013, Kelly was dismissed from the football program for conduct detrimental to the team in the spring of 2014.

Kelly then spent a season in junior college before finally committing to Ole Miss in the Fall of 2014. Kelly quickly earned the starting QB spot with the Rebels and turned in a great comeback season, throwing for 4,042 yards, 31 touchdowns, and completing 65.1 percent of his passes.

Kelly wasn’t done making headlines and called himself not just the best quarterback in the SEC, but the “best quarterback in the nation.”

The confident quarterback will have his opportunity to prove it when the Rebels kick off the season against Florida State on September 5 in Orlando, Florida.
