The summer of Ben Simmons continues with a ridiculous behind the back pass against the Miami Heat’s summer league team.

Ben Simmons has captured the hearts and minds of Philadelphia 76ers fans across the nation. The former LSU star has made some highlight reel passes this summer already, and he added to that tally tonight.

It’s not just the fact that Ben Simmons made the pass. It’s how crisp and how smooth it was. Simmons works the basketball like an extension of his body, and it shows in this play.

The 76ers have needed hope for a long time. They were third in the Draft lottery last year, taking Jahlil Okafor with their pick. They hit the jackpot this year with the No. 1 pick, taking LSU forward Ben Simmons. It’s the first time the 76ers have had the first pick in the draft since they drafted Allen Iverson in 1996.

The 76ers are going to need a little more than Ben Simmons to shore up their team. As a foil to the record-setting Golden State Warriors, they went 1-30 to start off the 2015-16 season. They finished the season 10-72. They arguably need help all over the court if they’re going to compete in the Eastern Conference again.

The 76ers have every right to be excited about Simmons, though. He’s a dynamic play maker that could be the cornerstone to build a great team around. Now, they need to find the other pieces of the puzzle fast, before Simmons becomes a star and entertains offers from more powerful franchises at the end of his contract.
