Jamie Benn recently had surgery to fix a core muscle injury that could cause him to miss the World Cup of Hockey in September.

The World Cup of Hockey is coming in September. Team USA has already been hurt by the injury to Ryan Callahan that will likely keep him out until at least November. Canada could be losing one of its biggest stars as Jamie Benn recently had a surgery to fix a core muscle injury and depending on how he recovers, it might cause him to miss the World Cup of Hockey.

His full recovery time is expected to be six weeks, said Stars general manager Jim Nill via NHL.com, “putting him on schedule to be ready for the 2016-17 season. Jamie will be re-evaluated after the six-week rehabilitation process, at which time, his availability for the World Cup of Hockey will be determined.”

It is likely that he will miss the World Cup of Hockey. If for no other reason, the Stars would hate to lose Benn and would most likely like to monitor him. Even if Benn doesn’t play in the World Cup of Hockey, Canada has plenty of capable replacements.

Taylor Hall of the New Jersey Devils was a glaring omission from Canada’s roster. He’d be the perfect replacement for Benn. Hall and Benn are similar players and Hall is one of the very few players who is comparable to Benn as far as production.
