Recent MLB Trade Rumors have been about who the Texas Rangers are targeting. Is pitcher Andrew Cashner on their radar?

The Texas Rangers are one of the best teams in baseball this season, and that has made them buyers for the upcoming trade deadline. One of the needs of the Rangers before the trade deadline is to add another starting pitcher. Texas is currently ranked 20th in the majors in team ERA, as some poor performances from their starting rotation have hurt them.

According to Jeff Wilson, the Rangers are targeting San Diego Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner. The Padres are having a poor season once again this year, and they have already begun to sell with the recent trade that sent Drew Pomeranz to the Boston Red Sox.

Cashner has frequently been involved in trade rumors the past few seasons, and those trade rumors have emerged once again this season. Unfortunately for the Padres, Cashner is not pitching as well as he has in previous years this season, as they will be selling low. This season, Cashner has totaled a 4-7 record, 5.05 ERA, and 53 strikeouts in 67.2 innings.

Cashner’s lifetime stats are much better than he has performed this season, and that is likely why the Rangers are still interested. In his career, Cashner has totaled a 3.74 ERA and had a 2.55 ERA in 19 starts in 2014.

With a very good chance to compete for a World Series this season, the Rangers are going to be very active in the next two weeks in order to secure an AL West title. The asking price for Cashner should be somewhat reasonable due to his poor season in San Diego. Pitching appears to be the No.1 priority for the Rangers, and Cashner would be a good option to round out the rotation.
