Even with the salary cap rising, these contracts in NBA free agency are still near indefensible

To say that 2016 NBA free agency was absolutely wild would be an understatement. Obviously Kevin Durant leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder to go join the Golden State Warriors is at the forefront of that calamity, but it goes much deeper than that. With the salary cap rising, teams were left with money to burn and did they ever do just that.

From the moment that negotiations opened, teams were on the phone and putting numbers in front of players that would’ve seemed absurd just one year ago. However, that’s what the market was dictating this offseason with all of the factors and it ultimately led to many players being overpaid and teams making questionable decisions.

While you may not love every deal that was made this offseason, there are some questionable contracts that are still justifiable to a certain degree. Even if you think Harrison Barnes is a glorified role player, he was always going to be getting around $24 million per year and there are plenty of other players and contracts that fall into that category.

Flipping to the other end of the spectrum, though, there were still some deals that were just too absurd, abstract, or simply bad to get around. Be it because of the length of the contract, the money being handed out, and even the team that was signing them in the context of their offseason, some of these contracts were just horrible.

These are the worst contracts handed out in 2016 NBA free agency, for one reason or another.
