There’s simply no sporting event in the world, especially one that happens annually, that can touch the Tour de France in terms of the spectacle, tradition, meaning, and simply the grueling nature of the race across the country. The 2016 Tour de France is nearing the end, though, as the riders will complete Stage 16 from Moirans-en-Montagne to Berne on an up-and-down 209 kilometer stretch of countryside.
Despite how great the race and event is as a whole, the action on the course isn’t particularly close at the moment. The odds-on favorite in Great Britain’s Chris Froome took a lead within the first 10 stages and has only been increasing that lead. Now he’s one minute and 47 seconds ahead of second place and simply dominating the competition. If anyone is going to have a chance to make up any time to take the yellow jersey off Froome, the 2016 Tour de France is going to have to heat up starting Monday.
