Two members of the Florida Gators football team were arrested over the weekend on felony charges stemming from a BB gun shootout.

Less than five years after Jameis Winston, who played just down the street from Florida, was involved in a BB gun battle that tore up an apartment complex in Tallahassee, two members of the Florida Gators were arrested on felony charges of firing a missile into a dwelling and criminal mischief. The two were allegedly firing BB guns in the dorms at Florida last week.

Tyrie Cleveland and Rick Wells, both wide receivers, have not been officially punished by Jim McElwain yet, but one would assume that a suspension or a release from scholarship is coming.

Tyrie Cleveland was Florida’s highest rated player in the 2016 recruiting class.

The charge of firing a missile into a dwelling is punishable by up to 15 years in prison, criminal mischief 5 years. The two were booked early Monday morning at around 3:30 AM.

It’s very unlikely that they will face the maximum, as no one was injured during the BB shootout. They will likely pay Florida for the destroyed property, then face whatever punishment comes their way via Florida Football.

Florida is just starting to become what it was in the late 2000s, and they’ll need players like Cleveland and Wells to make it back to their former glory. The charges are criminal, and the fact that they’re football players, good ones at that, shouldn’t factor into the proceedings. However, as we’ve seen with college football in the past, it definitely will.
