Leading into the WWE Draft, Daniel Bryan has been named the new general manager of WWE Smackdown Live

There is undoubtedly a huge period of transition coming at pro wrestling like a hurricane as WWE Smackdown is set to go to a live broadcast on Tuesday, July 19. On that same episode, the roster of the company will be shaken up with the brand split as the WWE Draft will take place. The big question, though, has been who will be the general manager of each show—but WWE Smackdown Live in particular.

On the night before the WWE Draft and one week after Vince McMahon named Stephanie McMahon commissioner of RAW and Shane McMahon the commissioner of Smackdown, they cleared up who would be Shane’s general manager quickly.

Opening the show with each McMahon child’s pick to be the general manager for their show, Shane O Mac made the ultimate crowd-pleasing move as he announced that one of the most beloved superstars in recent memory in Daniel Bryan will be the new WWE Smackdown general manager:

This is absolutely the right pick (and one that had been rumored, for what it’s worth). Not only is it great to see Daniel Bryan comfortable being around wrestling and WWE again, but Daniel Bryan is also a guy in love with the business and the art. He’s the perfect pick for Smackdown general manager to get excitement going for the going live and the brand splitting and the perfect guy to care about his craft and the product.

Well done, WWE—and welcome back, Daniel Bryan.
