Which Star Trek movies are on Netflix?

Looking to have a Star Trek movie marathon before Star Trek Beyond hits theaters?

With a venerated franchise like Star Trek, marathons are sort of the norm ahead of a new major release. Star Trek Beyond, the latest entry in the Kelvin timeline, is just about here, and Trekkies will be looking to their favorite streaming services to get geared up for it ahead of time.

Obviously, the first place to look is Netflix, and here you’re likely to be very disappointed, since there’s just one movie available. On the bright side of things, however, it’s Star Trek: First Contactone of the better Trek movies and probably the best The Next Generation movie out there. It’s the Borg. What more do you want?

“But wait,” you may be saying, “they used to have more on Netflix!”

Yes, they did. They don’t any more. The movies from Star Trek: The Motion Picture through Generations were removed on July 1.

However, here’s the central problem: You’re probably looking for some of the movies set in The Original Series or even the other two Kelvin timeline movies. There’s good news and bad news on that front.

More from Movies

Let’s start with the bad news, shall we? The Kelvin timeline movies — Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness — aren’t available to stream on any of the major services, though they are available to rent or buy on the usual suspects like Amazon Video and iTunes.

Now for the good news! You can still stream some of The Original Series  and The Next Generation movies on Amazon Prime Video. Six are currently available: The Motion Picture; Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan; Star Trek III: The Search for Spock; Star Trek V: The Final Frontier; Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country; and Star Trek: Insurrection.

Of the available movies, should you not feel like paying actual money but have both a Netflix and Prime subscription, may we suggest you go with The Wrath of Khan and First Contact as a one-two punch?

Star Trek Beyond will be in theaters this Friday, July 22.
