4. Ervin Santana to Rangers

The Twins should be looking to move Santana just to save the money. Santana has not been bad, but he is signed on until 2019, and is making about $14 million per year. As mentioned, this is a team looking to peak around 2019, or 2020. While Santana can be a veteran to help players come along, he will be 37 in 2019, and the hope should be that better options will be on the club. That said, they will only trade him if the right price is there.

With Drew Pomeranz off the board, the market is set, and one of the bigger pieces is off of the board. With one less pitcher, it increases the demand for players like Rich Hill, Junior Guerra and Santana. Teams need arms and arms they can trust, and some will pay the price.

The Rangers would likely pay the price. They got to the point of bringing on Kyle Lohse, and having him pitch through soreness as he tries to make his return. They have a big hole, they know it is pitching, and the question is where will they get it?

Overpaying for Julio Teheran may be too much, and Rich Hill being in the division complicates things. The Twins can try to create a bidding war for a player like Santana and see if someone bites. Something tells me that by late July the Rangers might.
