MLB Trade Deadline: 5 best trades for Tyson Ross
4. Los Angeles Angels
In this situation, the Angels would be fine with easing Ross back into the mix. This is not a team ready to make the playoffs this year. What they do need is any type of pitching moving into the future.
Jered Weaver and CJ Wilson are free agents this season and it is safe to say there is little to no chance that either will be back with the Halos in 2017. Garrett Richards is unlikely to be back by the start of next year either.
If the Angels are going to want an arm they can trust on this year they are going to have to pay for it. They have learned their lesson the hard way about overpaying veterans that other teams do not want.
While Ross comes with asterisks that may make it feel like another case of the Angels placing their chips on the wrong color, he doesn’t come with a hefty price tag. The Angels can be the team that is betting on him or buying low on him with the hopes of his bounce back being a big pay off.
He would likely be their opening day starter next year, and if he can prove his health and legitimacy, the Angels can then show him the money, and we all know they have it.
With Mike Trout on the roster, they do not want to mess around with a long rebuild. Bringing in Ross to potentially start next season with pitchers like Richards, Matt Shoemaker, Tyler Skaggs, Andrew Heaney, Hector Santiago and Nick Tropeano gives them depth and upside at the pitcher position with a chance to be competitive next season.
