Greg Abbott, the Governor of Texas, sounded off with a flaming hot Big 12 expansion take.

Big 12 expansion has been a hot topic around Texas and the Midwest for several years now. Today, the Governor of Texas gave us his professional opinion on who the conference should include in its expansion talks: Houston.

Greg Abbott giving a glowing review of Houston isn’t exactly surprising though. A Houston super booster once donated 150k to his campaign fund.

If the Big 12 ever gets off the fence and decides to expand, they likely won’t look to Houston. As much as we’d like to believe that it’s about academics and athletics and all those other good things, the only thing that will end up mattering is TV revenue.

Adding another school in Texas wouldn’t make much sense, especially when Houston doesn’t draw a big enough TV audience to beat out other Texas schools. If money wasn’t a factor, Houston would be a great addition. Unfortunately, it is, and Houston is not a great candidate.

Abbott’s bad take notwithstanding, this is a hilariously stereotypical Texas scenario. We’ve all see the Friday Night Lights show, we all know the stereotype of politics being centered around sports in small-town Texas. Here we have the Governor of the entire state giving his opinion on college football, and there’s a chance that it isn’t a completely honest view, considering the money that’s been donated to his campaign. Texas forever.
