FanDuel daily picks: Fantasy baseball lineup-July 22
High Salary SP
Yu Darvish-Texas Rangers (9,100): Tonight’s pitching options are pretty risky as a whole. The top two salaries are facing each other in hitter-friendly Yankee Stadium where weather could cause delay or cancelation. The third and fourth options are also risky as they face off in the heat of Arlington, Texas, where balls can really fly during the heat of the summer. The one of the top four options that I like the most is Yu Darvish even though he brings his own set of risks after missing over a month with a shoulder injury.
Dervish returned on Saturday and only lasted 4.1 innings against the Cubs allowing two runs on two hits and four walks . He struggled with his control as he shook off the rust, but his nine strikeouts are a good reminder of how excellent he can be when he’s on his game. Darvish has huge upside which is why I’m taking the risk on him in just his second start back as he faces the Royals in Texas tonight. ∗∗∗
Adam Conley-Miami Marlins (8,800): Conley and the Marlins host the Mets this weekend at Marlins Park. Conley will look to duplicate his previous start against New York when he held them scoreless for six innings allowing four hits and no walks and striking out nine. He took a no-decision in that start and comes into tonight 6-5 with a 3.61 ERA. He makes an interesting fantasy option at this price, though, mainly due to his strikeout potential. So far this month, he has 18 K’s in 17 innings and has at least seven strikeouts in three of his last four outings. He should get enough run support tonight to get a win with a quality outing as he goes up against Logan Verrett of the Mets.∗∗
Tanner Roark-Washington Nationals (8,700): Another solid play from under 9K is Tanner Roark of the Nationals who takes the mound tonight at home against the Padres who are second in the Major Leagues in strikeouts. Roark will look to pick up some punch outs against them tonight as he goes for this tenth win of the season.
In his first start of the second half, Roark held the Pirates scoreless for eight innings on just five hits and a walk while striking out five. He lowered his ERA to 2.82 with that start and improved to 9-5. Roark has been especially good at home where he is 5-3 with a 2.32 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 66 innings. He has at least five strikeouts in six of his last eight starts overall including a win over San Diego at Petco Park in mid-June. He can be dominant (15 K’s in April against the Twins), but his fantasy value comes from his great matchup with a hard-hitting lineup behind him. ∗∗∗
