What five moves should the New York Yankees make by the 2016 MLB Trade Deadline?

The MLB Trade Deadline is quickly approaching, and the New York Yankees don’t have much time to decide if they want to be buyers or sellers. Believe it or not, they can be both, as you will see by the five moves I believe they should make on this list.

New York is currently 6.5 games out of first place in the AL East, sitting behind the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays. It’s unfortunate that the Yankees play in arguably the toughest division in baseball because they’d likely be in second or third place in any other division in the league.

Joe Girardi has a team of veterans in a league dominated by young guns. Guys like Mark Teixeira, C.C. Sabathia, Carlos Beltran, Alex Rodriguez and Brian McCann are packed into a roster which has very few centerpieces for the future. Looking at it closely, the Yankees have some major work to do if they’re going to build.

However, New York has never really been a team to ‘rebuild’ instead of ‘reload’ as Brian Cashman will likely go out in the free agent mark this offseason or make some trades at the Winer Meetings in order to bolster the lineup and rotation with solid vets again.

Building the smart way would mean he’d have to rid himself of some veteran pieces now for young farm system talent which could pay off in the long run. Will he do it? That remains to be seen, but he should.

Let’s take a look at the five moves the Yankees should make before the MLB Trade Deadline.
