C.J. McCollum has agreed a four-year, $106 million contract extension with the Portland Trail Blazers.

We have seen a lot of free agents get big deals this summer. The value of some of these deals may seem questionable on the surface, but with the salary cap rising rapidly, they are just par for the course.

After adding Evan Turner and Festus Ezeli in free agency, the Portland Trail Blazers have now decided to give C.J. McCollum a four-year, maximum contract extension worth $106 million, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

McCollum, winner of the 2016 NBA Most Improved Player Award, is entering his fourth year as a pro. In 2015-16, he enjoyed his best season, averaging nearly 21 points, four assists and three rebounds per game. This career year came after McCollum battled injuries for two seasons and had a career scoring average of less than six points over 100 games.

With Damian Lillard agreeing to an extension last summer, the Trail Blazers seemingly have their back-court locked up for the future. The tandem of Lillard and McCollum combined to average nearly 46 points per game last season and is recognized as one of the best back-courts in the NBA.

This $106 million contract shows just how far McCollum has come after a disappointing first two seasons in the league. After earning the Most Improved Player Award last season and now a maximum contract extension, the next step for McCollum will be the All-Star game and possibly an All-NBA team honor.
