DraftKings MLB: Top Bargain plays for July 26th

Finding value can be the ever so elusive, “Holy Grail.” Making cap room for pitchers and big bats can make all the difference in a lineup. With a little elbow grease in the research department, I’m hoping to provide a handful of players that could provide critical salary relief for tonight’s DraftKings MLB slate.

Last night’s games stayed fairly low scoring with Baltimore, Boston, and Toronto all under at least four runs. Tonight slate is looking to be fairly similar in terms of projected runs for these teams, so we’ll see if Vegas can get back on track tonight (They usually do). Here are some cheap players to consider when evaluating this 15 game slate.

Bud Norris

Norris draws a juicy match up tonight vs. the Rays. The Rays strike out a ton, and even more so against righties. This plays in well with Norris’ ability to strike batters out. Vegas tends to agree, with the Dodgers being -130 favorites and the Rays having a projected run total at a measly 3.5. At $6300 on DraftKings, look for Norris to be one of the highest owned pitchers tonight.

Next: Value Bats

Matt Wieters – BAL (C) – $3300

Baltimore has a 5.6 projected run total tonight and Wieters, a switch hitter, fares much better against righties.

John Jaso – PIT (1B) – $2700

Pittsburgh bats are cheap again, as their run total is fairly low tonight, but this provides tremendous savings. Jaso has a wOBA split of .336 and an ISO split of .139 against righties. If he’s batting first, he has adequate value.

Tommy La Stella – CHC (2B/3B) – $3300

La Stella didn’t make the lineup last night, but he’ll be facing Shields (R) tonight and all the same points apply. If he’s batting first, he will be my best value play for the night.

Nolan Reimold – BAL (OF) – $3200

The same rational from last night applies again tonight. While he loses some value facing a righty, his price is much too cheap for the expected total from Baltimore.

Jason Heyward – CHC (OF) – $2800

It pains me to put Heyward on this list, but I think he does provide some value for an extremely cheap price of $2800. His price continues to drop, and these are the players I typically look to target. Heyward is facing a lefty and the Cubs should put up some runs tonight, so while he has clearly fallen off, he should benefit from the team around him.

Other Value Players To Consider: Contreras, Green, Escobar, Carrera, Alvarez, Profar

Some cheaper players are more suspect to be scratched from the lineup or bumped down the lineup order. Follow me on Twitter @MattMcGarvey215, where I’ll try to update these plays the best I can!
