Prior to the beginning of this year’s free agency period, much of the discussions regarding contract value were centered around the the jump in salary cap due to the league’s television deal. For months, basketball fans and the like prepared themselves for the outrageous amount of money players would be making.

Still, when the time came for reporters to break the news of various deals, the basketball world lost its collective mind, baffled by the type of money was being given out.

Miami Heat combo guard Tyler Johnson was certainly no exception.

As someone who suffered from motion sickness, I understand the intricacies of throwing up. I get it. I’m not necessarily comparing me upchucking after riding in a car for several hours to doing so after making life-changing money, but it’s all semantics, really. Who’s to say which is more reasonable?

Jokes aside, the 24-year-old was impressive coming off the bench in Miami in the time he played over the last couple of seasons. His defense and athleticism will serve the Heat well, and he’ll receive more playing time to fill the void that Dwyane Wade’s departure leaves. It certainly helped that the Nets offered him $50 million, but Pat Riley and the Heat felt he was well worth it.
