Pop star Justin Timberlake is the proud owner of an opinion on Big 12 expansion.

Former NSYNC member and star of film and music Justin Timberlake gave us his opinions on Big 12 expansion: It’s gonna be Memphis.

Timberlake is a native of Memphis, Tennessee, so it makes sense he would endorse the Memphis Tigers.

Memphis might actually be a part of the Big 12 when it expands. No need to cry a river, JT. The main thing the Big 12 is looking for is a new revenue stream, and Memphis can offer a brand new TV market in the football-crazed state of Tennessee.

There are a ridiculous amount of schools who want into the Big 12, but fewer still that will actually merit an invitation. The Big 12 has been waffling on expansion ever since Texas A&M left, but Big 12 Media Days saw the conference committed to expansion. Memphis and heir FedEx money could be an attractive target for the conference with BYU, Houston and Cincinnati among the leading candidates to join the league.

Timberlake might be the biggest celebrity to have opinions on what the Big 12 conference should do. The Governor of Texas endorsed Houston, and University of Texas and Texas Tech officials followed suit. There’s starting to be a precedent for national figures weighing in on sports, and Timberlake is the next in line. Timberlake never graduated from Memphis, but with his Tennessee roots, it’s hard to see why he wouldn’t endorse the Tigers.

It’s not like the Tigers are bad athletically either. They beat an Ole Miss team that beat Alabama in football last year and poached Texas Tech men’s basketball’s head coach Tubby Smith as well.
