With the MLB Trade Deadline just days away, the Giants struck a move by acquiring Eduardo Nunez.

On August 1, the MLB Trade Deadline will be here. This is the last chance for teams to make trades before the non-waiver deadline comes into play. Moves made around this time period usually reflect on whether organizations want to contend for the playoffs or rebuild.

One team looking to contend is the San Francisco Giants, who lead the NL West. They made a move on Thursday night to add to their roster, as the Minnesota Twins sent them infielder Eduardo Nunez for prospect pitcher Adalberto Mejia. This was reported by LaVelle E. Neal III of the Star Tribune and confirmed by FOX Sports.

Nunez is coming off his first All-Star game appearance. This is due to a career-best season, which includes a .300 batting average, 12 home runs, 47 RBIs, and 26 stolen bases. He was arguably the team’s best player in 2016. However, the Twins were going nowhere with their 38-63 record.

The Dominican Republic native will likely man third base for the Giants, pushing Matt Duffy out of the starting role. The incumbent hot corner starter was struggling in his sophomore season, hitting just .253 with 4 home runs. He’s working his way back from an Achilles injury.

Mejia is a 23-year-old lefty pitcher who has split time between Triple A and Double A in 2016. He has a combined 7-3 record with a 2.81 ERA and 101 strikeouts through 105.2 innings. MLB.com has him ranked as the Giants’ seventh-best prospect.

Eduardo Nunez will only strengthen an already tough Giants team. This may lead them to yet another even-year World Series victory.
