3. Pierre Thomas

Thomas spent final four games of last season with the Redskins, after playing one game for the San Francisco 49ers. He had 20 total touches over that span, highlighted by seven catches for 67 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 16. With no coaching change, Thomas should be very familiar with Washington’s offensive scheme and be able to step back into a role fairly seamlessly.

Thomas was a proficient pass-catcher during his time with the New Orleans Saints, including a 77-catch campaign in 2013, so his skill set would seem to mesh well with Jones as primarily a third-down/passing down back. It’s also worth noting that Thomas has lost just four fumbles in 110 career games, which Jones equaled in 13 games last season as a rookie.

At 31 years old (32 in December), Thomas would not be likely to step into an every-down role if Jones really falters or suffers a significant injury. But as a solid veteran option at this time on the calendar, and a likely good fit to boot, Thomas could find his way back to Washington soon.
