Identifying the top high salary and value pitcher plays from around Major League Baseball for your July 29 DraftKings lineup.

Our goal is to help you win DraftKings contests with consistently strong lineups. To accomplish that, we’ll be highlighting some higher salary players worth paying up for, and some value picks that will help you save salary in key areas. These picks are specifically for DraftKings lineups, so all references to prices and fantasy points are based on DK figures.

As always, be sure to double-check final MLB lineups and monitor weather situations before locking in your DFS lineups.

High Salary

Max Scherzer, Nationals (13,600): Scherzer is always one of the top DFS options on days that he takes the mound, but he’s not going to come cheap. A road tilt with the first-place San Francisco Giants isn’t the easiest matchup, but Scherzer’s strikeout potential always makes him a viable play. He’s reached double-digit strikeouts in five of his last eight starts and he’s reached 20-plus DK points in eight of his last nine starts. He’s a stud, without question.

Vincent Velasquez, Phillies (9,700): Tough call on the second high-salary option, but we went with Velasquez over Jose Quintana (10,600), Kenta Maeda (10,200) and Jon Lester (9,900), mainly due to his matchup with the last-place Atlanta Braves. Velasquez, like Scherzer, has high strikeout upside, which is valuable in DraftKings’ scoring format. Velasquez has topped 19 DK points in four of his last five starts, and should be able to do so again on Friday.

High Value

Steven Matz, Mets (8,500): Matz is coming off of his finest start since late May, having tossed six scoreless innings with six strikeouts against the Miami Marlins last Sunday. Some may be deterred by the matchup Friday with Colorado, but remember that the Rockies are considerably less dangerous on the road than they are at Coors Field. For this reasonable price, Matz is a solid play.

Trevor Bauer, Indians (8,300): Bauer’s last three starts have been poor, and it’s caused his price tag to drop. This is a perfect chance to buy low and hope for a bounce-back effort against the underwhelming Oakland Athletics. Bauer is a dangerous play, so he’s better served for GPPs. But he boasts serious strikeout upside when he’s locked in.
