The SEC is consistently one of the best conferences in College Football. Since 2005, eight of the past 11 national champions have been from the SEC. Four of those titles have come from Alabama. The most recent one came in the 2016 College Football Playoffs, when the Crimson Tide defeated the Clemson Tigers.

Before winning the championship, Alabama won the SEC. They finished first in the West Division with a 7-1 record. A Conference Championship game against Florida followed this, which Nick Saban’s squad won. This led to a berth in the College Football Playoffs.

Coming into the 2016 season, Alabama will likely be expected to win the SEC again. According to Oddsshark.com, they are a +175 favorite to reign supreme in the conference. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, despite Alabama losing a handful of players to graduation or the NFL Draft. They usually have a restocked team with all the recruits brought in, so highly-regarded players may be stepping in to fill the roles of players like Derrick Henry.

LSU is always discussed for the SEC as well. With Heisman Trophy hopeful Leonard Fournette in the backfield, the Tigers may stick around until season’s end. That’s if their defense rebounds from a poor 2015 campaign, which saw them allow 24.3 points per game.

The race for the SEC crown should be a fun one, with the winner likely being seen in the College Football Playoff.
